My Yearly Reading: Favorites of 2012

Here we go - my ten favorite books of 2012.  I've sorted these by genre and included links if I've already written about them. I also cheated and combined multiple books by the same author as one single pick.  Oh well, it's my list and I'll do what I want with it.

Contemporary Romance:

About That Night by Julie James: The FBI agent and the "Twitter Terrorist." Man, "Twitter Terrorist" will never not make me smile.  Julie James is one of my favorite writers of contemporary romance.  She writes about smart professionals falling in love.  This was my favorite book of hers to date.(Amz||GR)

One Night Rodeo by Lorelei James: A fake marriage turned real. A sweet and lovely romance and a complete knock out of the park for Lorelei James.

On Dublin Street by Samantha Young: The angst! It burns! In a totally good way!

Motorcycle Man by Kristen Ashley: Big bad biker Tack is such a sexy beast. And he has a soft spot for women who cry in his arms while watching "The Color Purple."  I blame this darn book for my Kristen Ashley addiction.

Her Best Worst Mistake by Sarah Mayberry: The stuffed shirt and the wild child. Blame peach schnapps.  As this is a shorter book, I'm pretty sure I've already read it three times in it's entirety.  (Amz||GR)

Bring Him Home by Karina Bliss: The PTSD-suffering solider and his best friend's widow. Don't mind me. My eyes are just spontaneously leaking over here.  (Amz||GR)

Urban Fantasy:

Gunmetal Magic - Ilona Andrews: Hands down, my best reading experience of the year was finally digging into the entire "Kate Daniels" series.  Set in an post-apocalyptic Atlanta, Kate Daniels is a badass magical mercenary who has a big-ass magical sword strapped to her back.  She's not subtle.  She's not who you call when you need finesse.  She's the big gun.  She's tough as nails.  She bakes pie.  She does not take shit from anyone. Gunmetal Magic is a full-length story starring Kate's best friend, Andrea.  Aww yeah, badass hyena bitch in the house!!  I loved this book and I love this series.

Historical Romance:

The Governess Affair/The Duchess War/A Kiss For Midwinter by Courtney Milan: A triple threat! Three strong women all grievously wronged in some way. Three unique heroes for them to love and to love them back.

Ravishing The Heiress/Tempting The Bride by Sherry Thomas: No book left me more emotionally bruised this year than Ravishing The Heiress.  But both of these books have in common protagonists (Fitz, in Heiress and Helena in Bride) who are too fixated upon the infatuations of their youths to see real mature love for what it is when it's staring them right in the face.  Watching them both figure it out was glorious, if heart-wrenching at times.  (Amz||GR)

A Lady Awakened by Cecilia Grant: The plot of this one goes as follows: A recent widow asks her neighbor to get her with child up so that she can pass the offspring off as her late husband's and keep his estate away from his creepy heir. The neighbor, mostly cause he's got nothing better to do with his time, is all for it. Extremely clinical and unsexy sex and, eventually, romantic nights talking about dairy farming (no, really) ensue. A very unique novel that stayed in the back of my mind all year round. (Amz||GR)

Honorable Mentions:
The Witness - Nora Roberts
Head Over Heels - Jill Shalvis
Origin In Death/Memory In Death/Born In Death - J.D. Robb
Once a Ferrara Wife... - Sarah Morgan
Leave Me Breathless - Cherrie Lynn
A Tale Dark And Grimm - Adam Gidwitz

Up Next:  Well hello, 2013.
