My Reading: Recapping February

The Best...

Getting Hotter [Out Of Uniform #8] - Elle Kennedy:  Navy seal sexytimes!  I love how deft Kennedy is at balancing honest to goodness romance and gleeful smut. Seth has the hots for Miranda, who is a former showgirl who his mom asked him to keep an eye out for.  Unfortunately, Miranda has two six-year-olds and Seth is seriously wary of children.  Miranda takes a risk letting Seth into the lives of both her and her children but it's a calculated risk and she doesn't make the decision without consideration.  I enjoyed how everything played out.   Also, Dylan's whole subplot and the set-up for the next book in the series?  What is not to love about sexy man-on-man action?  Nothing.  These books are a lot of fun.

(Side Note: If you're not familiar with this series, the first 6 are novella length and books 7+ are full-length. I haven't read many of the novellas because romance novellas just aren't one of my favorite things but I have thoroughly enjoyed both full-length novels.)  (Amz||Grds)

The Black Knights, Inc Series - Julie Anne Walker:  Over-the-top action/adventure romances?  Lots of macho guys cursing and talking about their balls all the time?  Kick-ass ladies who know how to handle themselves and the over-the-top men in their lives?  Yes, yes, yes, please.

The series isn't without problems.  The cheese factor is quite high at all times and the villains are almost exclusively cartoony terrorists.  But, oh man the women are great.  They're resourceful and smart and capable.  The second book in the series, In Rides Trouble, was my definite favorite but I enjoyed all three.  (Amz||Grds)

The Chocolate Thief - Laura Florand:  American chocolate heiress Cady Corey is dissatisfied with her life.  She longs to make gourmet chocolate but can't shake her commitments to her family's mass-market chocolate business.  So, she goes to Paris with a business opportunity for top-notch Parisian chocolatier Sylvain Marquis.  It does not go well.  Petty thievery, midnight make-out sessions, and sexy chocolate making ensues.   The sexual tension in this book was palpable and Sylvain uses a lot of French profanity.  I thoroughly enjoyed both of those things.  (Amz||Grds)

Size 12 And Ready To Rock [Heather Wells Mysteries #4] - Meg Cabot:  I thought the last in book in this series was a tad disappointing and felt like Cabot had run out of ideas for Heather Wells mysteries.  Well, she took a couple years off from this series and came back with a winner. (Amz||Grds)

Lethal Rider [Lords of Deliverance #3]  - Larissa Ione
Rogue Rider [Lords of Deliverance #4] - Larissa Ione

These two novels are the second half of Larissa Ione's "Lords Of Deliverance" series which follows the adventures of The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse as they try to stop the demonic apocalypse from happening.  This series is a spin-off/continuation of Ione's "Demonica" series which I have read in it's entirety.       I've always liked Ione's books better as supernatural adventure novels than as romances but I have to say that I really enjoyed the romances in these two books.  (Amz||Grds)

The Rest...

Ballroom Blitz - Lorelei James:  A novella-length story not set in one of James' western series.  The lack of basic communication between the two main characters annoyed me.  I never felt invested in the romance.  Not a favorite.

One Night Rodeo - Lorelei James: Another Lorelei James reread for me.  This was one of my favorite books last year and it totally held up under a reread.

A Gentle Feuding - Johanna Lindsey: Wow. This book was incredibly dull.  Two Scottish clans; lots of ridiculously easy to resolve misunderstandings; and no characteristic Lindsey WTFery to make up for the dullness.

Collide [Barker Triplets #2] - Juliana Stone: Reconciliation romance in the house!  The two main characters in this were young and volatile the first time they were together but they've both matured enough to give their relationship a chance.  I found this book interesting but I just couldn't get very emotionally attached.

Next Up: So, I finished this wrap-up, counted the books and exclaimed "Holy crap! I only read twelve books in February?!"  Then I remembered that I had shuffled all of the Kristen Ashley books off to a separate post and all was right with the world again.  Look forward to a Kristen Ashley mega-extravaganza coming soon.
